The Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association (NaHHA) is a 501 (c)(3) private, nonprofit corporation, incorporated in 1997. It's founders were George Kanahele and Kenneth Brown. Dr. George Kanahele was a Native Hawaiian author, educator, and academic, while Kenneth Brown is a renowned Native Hawaiian leader in business and health systems. By the 1980's, Dr. Kanahele and Mr. Brown had serious concerns about the direction of tourism and its impact on local communities and Hawai`i. In particular, they were concerned about the misuse and lack of respect for Hawaiian culture, values, and traditions.

Dr. Kanahele and Mr. Brown determined that, in order to have greater success in improving tourism and honoring Hawaiian culture and its people, they would need support. In 1997, they called a small group of Native Hawaiians together to form the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association.
